Fund established to support local storm recovery efforts
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation is accepting contributions from donors who want to support local storm recovery efforts.
"The ice storm on April 9 created unexpected financial hardship for many of our neighbors," says Candy Hanson, SFACF president. "Many families don't have the money to clean up debris or to stabilize or remove damaged trees. We're hoping that folks who are sensitive to those needs will make contributions to the Storm Recovery Fund."
Credit card gifts to the Storm Recovery Fund at the Community Foundation may be made at www.sfacf.org. Checks can be mailed directly to SFACF/Storm Recovery Fund, 300 N. Phillips Avenue, Suite 102, Sioux Falls 57104.
Community Foundations work to match people with means with the organizations helping people with needs. When local emergencies arise, Community Foundations are responsible for coordinating the distribution of donations needed to get the community back on its feet.
"Those who can't afford the costs of storm clean-up need to call Helpline 211, which will put them in touch with an agency that can help," says Hanson. "The Storm Recovery Fund won't be making payments to individuals. It will be used to reimburse the agencies that provide direct assistance to those in need."
