Maddy White Signs with USD

Posted: Updated:

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota women's basketball head coach Amy Williams is pleased to announce the signing of Maddy White to a National Letter of Intent.  The Warrnambool, Australia, native will be on the Coyote roster this fall.

White, a 5-foot-11-inch forward, graduated from Geelong College last year and currently plays for the Geelong Supercats of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). She played on Australia's U19 team, known as the Gems, at last year's World Qualifying Championships and is currently vying for a roster spot for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships, which will be held in Lithuania this July.

She also won a gold medal at the inaugural Australian U18 3-on-3 Championships last July.

"We are excited about the addition of Maddy White to the program," Williams said. "She is an accomplished international athlete that has had excellent coaching and training. Her competitiveness, basketball IQ, and versatility will be great assets for our program and should put her in a position to make an impact right away."

White will be the second player on the Coyote roster that played for the Gems.  Nicole Seekamp, who will be a junior next season, was a starter for and won a world title with the team in 2010.

Prior to playing for Geelong, White helped Warrnambool to back-to-back Big V Division I Championships in 2010 and 2011.  The Big V is a basketball league in the Australian state of Victoria.

White is the third member of South Dakota's 2013 recruiting class, joining Bridget Arens of Crofton, Neb., and Jaylah Jackson of Olathe, Kan.
