US Fish and Wildlife name new duck stamp winner

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it has disqualified a 6-year-old South Dakota girl from accepting a $5,000 scholarship after her painting was selected for a federal duck stamp.

Six-year-old Madison Grimm, of Burbank, was selected as the winner of the Federal Duck Stamp contest last week. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Friday that she was disqualified after officials learned she had copied the image, which is against contest rules.

The original runner up, 17-year-old Peter Coulter of Washington, Mo., has been named the new winner.

Proceeds from sales of the $5 Junior Duck Stamp support environmental education.
