Three displaced from smoke damage after SF house fire, Friday

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a house fire on E. 24th Street shortly before 10:30, Friday night.

The initial reports said there could be up to three people trapped inside. Crews arrived on-scene to several flames appearing above the rooftop of the one-story home.

Everyone did manage to escape, unharmed.

The body of the fire was concentrated in the garage on the east side of the home.  A minivan and the belongings stored in the garage were destroyed but firefighters were able to control the blaze before it extended into the living area.

Crews were able to get the flames out in about 20 minutes but firefighters dealt with hot spots for about an hour. Two firefighters remained on scene over night to ensure that the fire did not rekindle.

The three people residing in the home were displaced due to smoke damage.  They received temporary housing assistance from the Red Cross.

An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

SFFR reminds parents to have an escape plan and to practice it with your children.
