Posted: Updated:

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota softball completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Kangaroos with a 3-1 win at Nygaard Field on Saturday afternoon. Back-to-back home runs by Allie Daly and Morgan Hancock in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and gave USD the victory.

Daly's blast was her third in the series and 13th of the year, tied with Tiffany Davis for the third-most in USD single season history and tied for the fifth-highest total in the history of the Summit League. She also hit her 16th double and knocked in her 52nd RBI of the year. Her RBI total is the fourth-highest in school history and is tied for ninth in league history.

Hancock's home run was the cap to a brilliant series at the plate in which she went 6 of 10 with three walks, two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored, including the game-winner in the 11th inning of the series opener.

USD ace Erica Denney (16-7) again went the distance on the mound, striking out three and walking one while scattering seven hits. The ‘Yote defense was solid throughout, including an over-the-shoulder diving catch made at a full sprint by shortstop Christine Broders for the final out of the game..

The Coyotes (28-16, 11-5 Summit) scored their only other run in the bottom of the first inning. With both teams still scoreless and one out Katie Dinning hit her eighth-career triple into right center field. She scored two batters later on Daly's double. Dinning's three-bagger tied her for third in program history in career triples.

The Kangaroos (16-22, 5-6 Summit) scored their only run of the game in the top of the second. With two outs and runners on second and third UMKC left fielder Bri Wyatt singled through the left side of the infield to plate Katie Kelley. Both teams remained scoreless for the next three innings before the Coyotes pulled away for the win.
