RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - School children in Rapid City have some good news coming to them.

The superintendent of the city's school district says despite having to cancel school several days because of snow this year, just three make-up days will be added to the end of the school year. School will end May 24 rather than be extended past Memorial Day.

Superintendent Tim Mitchell says teachers and school employees will have to make up the missed time.

The state requires 875 hours of instruction for students in K-3 and 962.5 hours of instruction for students in grades 4-12. Even without making up two of the missed days, elementary students will receive 983 hours of instruction, and middle and high school students will get 990 hours of instruction.
