Search continues in Sioux City officer's shooting

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - Officers have been scouring Sioux City, trying to find a man suspected of shooting a police officer.

Police spokesman Chad Sheehan says officers from several agencies are searching for 22-year-old Jamal Dean.

The officer was wounded just after 3 p.m. Monday after stopping a vehicle in an alley on the west side of town. Sheehan says the officer was still sitting in his cruiser when he was shot by a man with a rifle who'd gotten out of the other vehicle.

The officer's name and condition haven't been released. Police Chief Doug Young has said the officer's wounds aren't life-threatening.

No arrest has been reported. A police dispatcher declined to comment early Tuesday morning but said the case would be discussed at an 11 a.m. news conference
