Avera purchases land near Cabela's for expansion in Mitchell area
Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell has purchased 30 acres of land near Cabela's, anticipating growth in the area's medical needs.
Tom Clark, Regional President and CEO of Avera Queen of Peace, tells KSFY News in an email that Avera purchased the land just west of Cabela's to be developed as a medical and health care campus. However, developing the land is a ways away.
"We have no immediate plans; we are still in the planning stage, looking ahead and anticipating our region's medical and health needs for the next 25-30 years," Clark told KSFY News in an email.
Those involved with the expansion met with Avera colleagues, the Board of Directors, physicians, hospital department directors, community leaders and others to obtain input. The project will be phased and will likely include a physician office building, an outpatient center and possibly even a hospital, in the future.
"(It's) too early to be specific about what will be located there but clearly, we will be looking at the future needs of Mitchell and the region as we make decisions," Clark said.
