Protestors call for immigration reform in Minnesota

Posted: Updated:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Hundreds of supporters of changes to federal and state immigration laws marched to Minnesota's Capitol on Wednesday as fellow activists held similar rallies around the country.
The May Day rally on Thursday was sponsored by a coalition of labor, social justice and other groups who support a federal overhaul of immigration laws that would address thousands of immigrants now living and working in the country illegally. Members of Congress and the Obama administration are currently negotiating on that issue.
The rally coincided with a vote on Wednesday in the state Senate to extend Minnesota's in-state tuition rates and financial aid to the children of immigrants who are not documented. Those at the rally are also seeking a change in law that would allow drivers licenses for immigrants without documentation.
