MOBRIDGE, S.D. (AP) - A Mobridge-area rancher and livestock cattle buyer wants to build an indoor aquatics center.

Kim Ulmer says competitive swimming is a life-altering experience, and he hopes his three youngest children will come to see it that way, too.

Mobridge demolished its aging pool in the fall because it was getting expensive to maintain. The town is along the banks of Lake Oahe on the western edge of Walworth County.

Ulmer says he was a member of the McLaughlin swim team for a couple of years in his youth. His three oldest kids swam for McLaughlin, and his wife helped coach the squad, which disbanded after the pool closed.

He says the $1.9 million center would have to be self-sustaining.
