Woman denies embezzling from South Dakota grain elevator
BURKE, S.D. (AP) - A former employee has denied embezzling more than $17,000 from the Gregory Farmers Elevator in southeastern South Dakota.
Melissa Vosika, 29, has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of embezzlement, three counts of altering corporate records, three counts of forgery and one count of attempted embezzlement.
Vosika is accused of depositing elevator money into her personal bank account last year.
State regulators last month revoked the elevator's grain buyer and warehouse licenses because of financial problems. Public Utilities Chairman Gary Hanson says he does not think the alleged embezzlement was a significant factor in those financial problems.
