Plans are moving forward for the creation of a new major east-west corridor across the city of Sioux Falls.
That corridor will be 85th Street and the next phase of making it a major corridor is to connect 85th Street from Louise Avenue to Sundowner Avenue...with a bridge over Interstate 29.
Area residents gathered at Explorer Elementary tonight to hear from transportation consultants about why this corridor needs to happen. Bill Troe is a consultant with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. "Right now, we have the infrastructure to handle the traffic today. But as development continues to occur, we're gonna start to see more congestion and we don't have the infrastructure today to accommodate the traffic that is forecast for 2040."
85th would be two lanes of traffic in each direction.
Construction isn't set to begin for at least another 2 to 3 years.
