The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says a couple from Eagle Butte died in a crash along Highway 212 near La Plant Wednesday.

The accident was reported shortly after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. Robert Ironwing, 74, and his Wife Francine, 67, were traveling in a 2006 Chevy Silverado north on a driveway three miles west of La Plant.

The couple was approaching the driveway's intersection with Highway 212. According to the Department of Public Safety, Ironwing did not stop at the intersection before entering the highway, where his vehicle was struck by an eastbound 1991 Mack semi-truck.

The driver of the semi-truck, 71-year-old Arlo Wagner, of Agar, was not injured in the accident. Wagner was wearing a seatbelt.

The Ironwings died at the scene. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

The Department of Public Safety has not released any further information, and the South Dakota Highway patrol is investigating the crash. The Dewey County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs assisted.
