Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Kaitlin Fleet from Elkton High School.
Kaitlin currently has a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
She has an unusual situation when it comes to attending her school and she has a very special plan once she graduates and heads off to college.
Kaitlin Fleet is spending her final semester of high school finishing off some credits she needed to tackle. "Band , anatomy, nutrition and dietary and English...just basically required classes."
Kaitlin is in a bit of an odd situation. She lives with her family in Lake Benton, Minnesota...but the closest school that offers the best education option for her....is in Elkton, South Dakota. So we asked her....how does she work that out? "Whenever there are events here at the school, i have to make plans on how am I going to get there, just the driving distance. But its never really been a problem."
And Kaitlin is involved in a lot of school activities...both outside the classroom and extra projects inside the classroom as well. Listen to what Elkton Consumer Science teacher Mary Reymund told us about Kaitlin. "Whenever you ask her to do something she is right there to help. she will come in before school, after school, she'll ask me if there are things that need to be done. besides all the projects that she heads up."
And what does the future hold for Kaitlin? What does she want to do?
No surprise...she says she is going to focus on something that will help others. "I plan on going to Augustana and I would like to major in sign language interpreting."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Kaitlin will receive a $100 scholarship from Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
