MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - It's boom time for apartments in one South Dakota city.
Several major building projects are currently in the works in Mitchell that will add nearly 250 rental units. Developers are acting on a recent study that showed the city's need for additional housing.
The biggest complex is a 64-unit building known as Pheasant Ridge Apartments, followed by the 57-unit MTI Apartments and the 52-unit South Point Village.
Mitchell has an estimated population of more than 15,300 people. The city grew by 696 people and 575 households between 2000 and 2010.
Mitchell developers tell the Daily Republic that spots in apartments go fast, even when the buildings are still under construction.
