Police chief: Mock disaster drill an 'eye-opener'

STURGIS, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota police chief says a table-top mock disaster exercise for one of the country's premier motorcycle rallies scared him.

The scenario played out Friday involved a tornado that touched down during a concert in front of thousands of people at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Sturgis Police Chief Jim Bush tells the Rapid City Journal that the exercise was a "real eye-opener."

Officials say the major focus of the exercise was the staging of equipment and volunteers, as well as mapping out temporary shelters.
