Ice creeps up shore, creates wall along Lake Mille Lacs, Minn.

LAKE MILLE LACS, Minn. (AP) - The National Weather Service says consistent strong winds and loose ice caused huge ice sheets to creep up the Lake Mille Lacs shore in northern Minnesota.

The ice crawled into doors and windows at Izatys Resort Saturday morning.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Shawn Devinny says 30 to 40 mile an hour winds pushed the water into ice Saturday.

The Department of Natural Resources says about 10 miles of shoreline are covered, with some ice as tall as 30 feet.

Darla Johnson says watching the ice move across land was creepy.

Devinny says the shoreline got a reprieve on Sunday, with only 10 to 20 mile an hour winds. He says much warmer weather expected this week will melt the ice.
