SIOUX FALLS – With the Sioux Falls Canaries name back in Sioux Falls culture, the 2013 "Welcome Home" Canaries season is ready to launch this weekend.
After Thursday's season opener in Sioux City, the Canaries open their home season at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at Sioux Falls Stadium. They host the Sioux City Explorers for three straight games. Friday night features a First Premier Bank Magnetic Schedule Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans and the ever-popular Friday postgame fireworks show. Plus, live music provided by the Cartwright Brothers will greet fans.
At 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, the first 500 fans will receive a "Birds are Back" t-shirt. The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday with a Family Funday matinee. After the game, kids can run the bases, meet the players and get player autographs. This weekend and every weekend, the Xcite Family Fun Zone will have inflatables and bounce houses for kids.
To help fans "welcome home" the Canaries, anyone wearing Pheasants gear all weekend will receive a discount on merchandise purchased in the Canaries Pro Shop.
Fans coming out to Canaries' games can enjoy tasty concessions provided by Ovations Food Services. In addition to traditional favorites like hot dogs, burgers, popcorn and peanuts, Ovations Food Services is providing Canaries fans with some new menu items this season, like corn dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, foot long hot dogs, Hot Stuff Pizza, and the Loaded Potato Curveball, which is a deep-fried loaded baked potato on a stick. On Friday and Saturday home games, Ovations Food Services will feature Smoked Prime Rib, Smoked Hot Dogs, and Smoked Pork Loin.
