Minnesota is now the 2nd most expensive state for gasoline

Posted: Updated:

Gas prices rose again overnight....and it's not just by a couple cents.

Here in South Dakota, the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.83 today...up from $3.65 yesterday.

Iowans are paying an average $3.96 per gallon...an 11-cent jump from just yesterday.

Minnesota is seeing the worst of it at $4.26 a gallon...up from $4.15 yesterday -- and a 46 cent jump in just the past week.

Patrick DeHaan is an analyst with gas-buddy-dot-com. "Already Minnesota has surpassed California, Alaska, Illinois to become the 2nd most expensive state as of this moment and it could become the most expense state in the next week."

Experts say refinery maintenance in Illinois is the root of the problem but it doesn't stop there.

There aren't reserves any because refineries had to switch from winter blend to summer.

And the kicker - prices aren't expected to drop for at least a month.
