Rounds hires former Thune staffer as campaign consultant
South Dakota's lone—so far—US Senate Republican candidate has hired a man who helped Sen. John Thune oust one of South Dakota's most prominent senators.
On Wednesday, Former Governor Mike Rounds announced he has hired Dick Wadhams to serve as the general consultant for his campaign. Wadhams has served as Colorado's Republican Party Chair but is best known for his role in helping guide John Thune to an upset victory of Sen. Tom Daschle in 2004.
In a news release, Rounds said Wadham's reputation as a battle tested strategist and his insight into South Dakota politics make him perfect for his team.
"The reality is outside interests are already trying to influence South Dakota voters. We are prepared to counter their attempts to manipulate this race," Rounds said in the news release.
Wadhams called it an honor and privilege to help Rounds, saying the US Senate desperately needs more people just like the former governor.
"During my time in South Dakota, I was very impressed with Governor Rounds' leadership and political instincts," said Dick Wadhams. "Make no mistake, national interests will attempt to steal this seat away from South Dakotans."
