Trooper Steen to be honored with "Trooper of the Year" award

Posted: Updated:

Trooper Andrew Steen has been named the American Association of State Troopers "2013 Trooper of the Year."

34-year-old Steen was recognized for his bravery following an incident last October in which he tried to stop a suspected drunk driver, standing his ground and discharging his weapon as she drove toward him. The suspect hit Steen with her car, leaving him critically injured.

After a medically-induced coma and multiple surgeries, Steen was released from the hospital in December.

The AAST Trooper of the Year Award is presented to a state trooper who exemplified traits of an outstanding law enforcement officer the previous year. Steen will receive the award during a ceremony Thursday.
