South Dakota, Minnesota Troopers give 190 citations in joint I-90 enforcement

Sioux Falls, S.D. – State Troopers from South Dakota and Minnesota issued 188 citations and 522 warnings during a joint enforcement operation Thursday June, 13, on Interstate 90 between Chamberlain, S.D, and Fairmont, Minn.

As the summer driving season gears up, the joint operation focused on criminal interdiction, speeding, seatbelt use and drinking and driving. This is the second consecutive year South Dakota and Minnesota have joined together for the enforcement effort.

"This is a team effort for South Dakota and Minnesota to serve citizens driving across our states," Capt. Kevin Joffer of the South Dakota Highway Patrol said. "We conduct this concentrated operation to raise public awareness of the need for safe choices on the highways."

A total of 659 vehicles were stopped. There was one DUI arrest. The Troopers provided 28 physical aids.

Totals for the operation included:

  • Speeding: 90 citations, 237 warnings
  • Stop sign violations: two citations, one warning
  • Move-over law: one citation, seven warnings
  • Seatbelt violations: 22 citations, 33 warnings
  • Driver license, insurance or registration: 26 citations, 78 warnings
  • Drugs: 11 arrests
  • Other moving violations: 13 citations, 37 warnings
  • Other non-moving violations: 20 citations and 80 warnings
