A late night robbery at Walmart turned into a chase and landed two people in jail and 3 young kids in protective custody. It started at the East side Walmart for a strong armed robbery, assault, and shoplifting. The suspects had already left when police arrived. At 12:11a.m., Police tried to stop the car near 6th St. and Cleveland Ave. for a traffic violation, but they refused to stop. The suspects traveled onto I-229 and then onto I-90. The chase ended on Rice Street and Timberline Avenue near Brandon.

The driver was taken into custody without incident. She was identified as 28-year-old Joanne Swallow of Mitchell. She is charged with aggravated eluding, 3 counts of abuse and cruelty to children, shoplifting, and driving while suspended. A passenger was also arrested after a brief struggle. He was identified as 34-year-old Robert Salinas. He was charged with aggravated eluding, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, 3 counts of abuse and cruelty to children, second degree robbery, resisting arrest, and for being a fugitive from justice.

There were also 3 young children in the van who were not injured, but a 58-year-old passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries during this incident. Police had shut down Rice St. between Timberline and Six Mile Road for several hours but it has since been reopened.
