Entenman: City should accept FEMA funds for ice storm

Posted: Updated:

The Sioux Falls City Council is taking $8 million from reserves to cover costs of April's ice storm.

Reimbursements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency could cover most of the costs but the council is still debating whether to accept it.

Some say federal dollars should go to true disasters--- like in Moore, Oklahoma.

     But councilman Jim Entenman disagrees.

He says if it wasn't for the city's quick action then the ice storm could've been a bigger disaster. "We actually saved the city significant dollars, and in my opinion with some of the hazards we saw, with some of the shutdowns of powers, the response of the firefighters and the response of our police we actually probably saved lives because of our quick response to the situation."
