FDA rejects proposal for new insomnia medication

Posted: Updated:

The Food and Drug Administration has rejected a new insomnia drug by Merck.

But it's opened the door to approving a lower-dose version.

Merck was proposing doses as high as 30 milligrams for elderly patients and 40 milligrams for other adults.

The FDA says it would consider a 10 milligram starting dose for most patients.
