Sioux Falls firefighters were able to free two women trapped in an elevator in Sioux Falls Wednesday, during a power outage that affected 2,220 people.

Just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, a power outage in Sioux Falls put 2,193 Xcel Energy customers in the dark. A portion of Downtown Sioux Falls was without power, but the larger area of outages was between Benson Road on the north side, 11th Street on the south side, North Covell Avenue on the west side of the road and Weber Avenue on the east side of the road.

Two women were stuck in the Falls Center elevator at 431 N. Phillips Avenue. They work on the third floor of the building. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says during the outage the elevator stopped between the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Firefighters acted quickly though. The women were freed from the elevator with elevator keys after about 10 minutes.

Power was restored to parts of Downtown Sioux Falls by 10 a.m. Wednesday. KSFY News knows power to the Minnehaha County Courthouse and Administration Building were restored. A line formed at the Minnehaha County Administration Building as soon as the power turned back on.
