Posted: Updated:

The victim of an aggravated assault is still in critical condition with life threatening injuries, Officer Sam Clemens told media Friday.

Shurki Jara, 25, of Sioux Falls was taken to a hospital early Thursday morning with serious head trauma and a fractured skull. Jara was allegedly assaulted after an argument over marijuana and money with Nicholas Longcrow, 32, of Sioux Falls.

According to court documents, Longcrow told prosecutors he struck Jara with a foot-long metal pipe three to four times and then Jara went down. Longcrow said he then kicked the victim one time in the face. Investigators noted they saw blood on Longcrow's shoe.

"I was hoping I didn't kill the guy," Longcrow told investigators, according to the arrest warrant.

Longcrow is facing four counts of aggravated assault.
