Spearfish man sentenced in Alaska homicide

Posted: Updated:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 31-year-old South Dakota man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection with a cold-case homicide in Anchorage.

Alaska state prosecutors say Derrick Torian of Spearfish was sentenced Friday on his conviction for manslaughter in the death of 28-year-old Genevieve Tetpon in 2000.

Tetpon's body was found near Arctic Valley Road. Authorities say Tetpon had been stabbed 30 times. Her body was wrapped in a sleeping bag.

Prosecutors say the case went cold. Then it was reopened in 2009.

Torian was linked to the death through DNA. Prosecutors say Torian had lived in Anchorage at the time of Tetpon's death.
