Hometown Days: Family Fun in Eagle Butte

Posted: Updated:

It's an annual tradition in Eagle Butte - Hometown Days.

Each year, the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation's largest community does it up right with a weekend of summer fun.

It's happening this Friday and Saturday - July 18th and 19th.

There will be a street dance, rodeo, class reunions, and art in the park featuring more than a dozen vendors.

It will also be a time to capitalize on the Anniversary Sale at Lakota Thrifty Mart, where they'll have a special hot dog meal, a balloon bust and a lot more going on.

This year I brought in a pony carousel. It's live ponies, Erma's Ponies is bringing them down from Ashley, North Dakota. We're going to have six ponies on the carousel at a time for the kids - something else for them to do," said Lakota Thrifty Mart assistant floor manager Cindy Marshall, "And we'll have characters, if anyone's wanting to come see the characters. I have Chester Cheetah coming in, Trix Rabbit and Porky the Pig coming."

Last year, Lakota Thrifty Mart sold more than 1,200 hot dogs during the event - this year, they expect to exceed that.
