Michael Schoolcraft of Denver, Colo., won the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament Monday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Schoolcraft, who will be a senior this fall at Oklahoma University, had rounds of 69 and 68 for a 36-hole total of 3-under-par 137 to win by three strokes over Aaron Tom of Sioux Falls. Schoolcraft, who also won the 2012 U.S. Amateur qualifier at Bakker Crossing GC, earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur Championship on Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
Tom had rounds of 68 and 72 to earn the first alternate spot. Drew Trautman of Clear Lake is the second alternate after defeating Alex Shattuck of Sioux Falls on the second hole of a playoff. Trautman and Shattuck each finished at 1-over-par 141.
