Students give up part of summer for Governor's Camp

Posted: Updated:

Middle school students from across the state are giving up a week of their summer to head back to the classroom.

They're attending the South Dakota Governor's Camp. It's a program for gifted children that challenges them in academics and other activities.

"There is so much out there to pursue and we don't want them to become people who just take the easy out because they already know the answers," Dr. Trudi Nelson said. She's the director of the camp.

"Getting to meet new people that like the same stuff I do and getting take classes I've never even thought about," Watertown 8th Grader Nick O'Connor said.

The camp runs through Friday on the University of South Dakota Campus.
