On the afternoon of August 8th, 2013 the Day County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, the Brown County Sheriff's Office, and the Aberdeen Police Department, initiated a search warrant on an apartment and two vehicles in Pierpont, South Dakota. The results of that search warrant were the arrest of two men on charges of first degree burglary, third degree burglary, grand theft (firearm), petty theft, possession of controlled substances, and other misdemeanor charges. The men are currently being held on those charges and bond has been set at $10,000 cash each. The men also face additional burglary charges in Brown and Marshall Counties.
Arrested were 18 year old Joey Severson, and 19 year old Kristofer Freudenthal of Pierpont. The charges stem from a series of burglaries in and around Pierpont, as well as in Marshall and Brown counties. A large number of items from the burglaries were recovered in the apartment and the vehicles that were covered under the search warrant.
The Day County Sheriff's Office stresses that these crimes were solved through the inter-agency cooperation between the three counties with the sharing of information and man-power. All of the agencies involved were able to work together to solve 5 burglaries in Day County, one in Marshall County, and another in Brown County. Sheriff Hillestad was quoted as saying, "My Deputies did a great job of coordinating information with the other agencies involved, realizing that there may be a connection between a number of these cases, and then we were all able to come together to gather enough Intel to obtain our search warrant of the suspect's residence. The folks living in our three neighboring counties should be proud of the job that their Law Enforcement Officers are doing for them."
Court appearances for the men will begin next week in the three counties as the cases move to the prosecution stage.
