Shawn and I admittedly are not shy about spreading the love for deep fat fried food always found at the fair. Before we got our fill of greasy goodness at the Sioux Empire Fair, we stopped by a local landmark at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds to appreciate their pancakes.
Shawn: Are we ready to go? Nancy: We're ready. Shawn: Let's make some pancakes. Nancy: Alright, we're at the Kiwanis Pancake House at the fair grounds. Why wouldn't we come visit the most pretty girl out here. Judy Rauscher. What is your secret to a perfect pancake? You make them and we'll show you. Judy: The really secret is that I've learned over the years, is that when you mix your batter up, most people when they get ready to pour them they stir it again. Do not do that because when the batter sets, it raises, and that's how you get the light fluffy pancakes. So that's the secret. -- These are two big cakes to go. Nancy: I think you should have gotten more pancakes though. And you guys raise money for a lot of the things that we like: Casa, the Teddy Bear Den, and Feeding South Dakota. We like that. Shawn: All you can eat for four dollars. Judy, you're the best. I can't wait to dig into this. -- Mmm Judy! Muuuwah Judy: Thank you! Shawn: Fantastic! Nancy, you need to eat more pancakes in your life. -- So nothing tops off a trip to the pancake house like cheese curds for dessert. Nancy: Donuts and corn dog, happy fair day! Shawn: You always have to take it a step further, don't you? Nancy: I learn from you!
At the Kiwanis Pancake House you can eat as many as you want for $4. The current record is 21. In 31 years at the fair the Kiwanis Club has raised roughly 1/2 million dollars for charity.
Headlining Friday is Country Music star Hunter Hayes. In the Budweiser Beer Garden is Casey Muessignmann who was on the Voice vying for a spot on Blake Shelton's team. His mom Gina graduated from Spencer, IA High School with Nancy.
