Randy Scott Memorial ride on 10 year anniversary of crash
It has been 10 years since 55 year-old Randy Scott was killed when the late Congressman Bill Janklow ran a stop sign in Moody County just south of Flandreau. Sunday, on the anniversary, and every year since, several dozen friends and relatives join for a memorial ride from Scott's hometown of Hardwick, MN, sharing in his memory.
"We're here just celebrating the memorial of Randy Scott a good friend of mine that got killed at the intersection here by Trent South Dakota," We had about 60-70 bikes out here to celebrate his memory and just spend some fellowship together."
"Just to remember Randy, we all loved him so much so I know he is watching over us here too."
"Lord as I ride this cycle, keep my hands in yours. Let me enjoy life, and freedom while keeping me safe from harm."
"Oh I think of him every day. We have a close family and it's been a real loss to our family for him not being with us so we think of him a lot," daughter Brandee Scott said.
"I don't think you ever get over it. It's something that stays with us the rest of our lives. He was my brother, just our family and he's a really special person," sister Jerilyn Kille said. "It's hard to forget that day but at the same time you just have to remember all of the good and all of the things that happened and celebrate his life. There was two families that were affected that day forever."
"To me it seems like it was just yesterday when everybody asks me about it. Time goes by fast and its unfortunate that he's not here and lives move on."
"I'm extremely excited that so many people showed up and a lot of people traveled a long ways away to get here and it just shows all of the support that Randy and his family have so I really appreciate that so many people showed up today."
"He's up there smiling like crazy right now knowing that there is this many people out here having a good time going on a motorcycle ride in his memory."
"Dear father in heaven, be with us all today as we gather at this spot where Randy was killed on August 16th. May we always keep memories of him and the great times we had together. This happened so quickly that we weren't ready for Randy to leave us. His winning smile the jokes he'd tell us, and all was made of happy. God was waiting for him up in heaven. The Lord is with all of us and may God bless all of you."
