ND man accused of assaulting man over cigarettes

Posted: Updated:

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota man is accused of beating another man unconscious because the victim didn't have any cigarettes.

The Forum reports that Dengdit John Geu, of Fargo, was charged earlier this week with three counts, including felony terrorizing.

Authorities say Geu asked Ali Mohamed for cigarettes and when Mohamed told him he didn't smoke, Geu became angry and punched the victim in the head several times.

Police responded to a disturbance call at the same location later that night and found a man yelling and threatening to beat up people inside the building.

Officers arrested the man at gunpoint. The suspect told police his name was Panther Geu from Sioux Falls, S.D.

Police later determined the man was Dengdit Gau. He reportedly gave officers his older brother's name.
