Denver developer, German partner restore Spearfish ranch

Posted: Updated:

SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - A Denver developer says he and his German partner have about $30 million invested so far in the historic 5,000-acre Frawley Ranch near Spearfish.

Daryll Propp says that nearly 15 years after they acquired it, he'd like to say they're done. But they'll probably take on investors and partners because they can't do it alone.

Much of the work was dedicated to the restoration and preservation of historic buildings, including the Anderson Dairy Farm and the Frawley Ranch, the lone working ranch in South Dakota listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The courtyard barns are filled with Western antiques dating back to the ranch's 1877 origins. They've been restored with private funds and help from the Outside of Deadwood Grant program.
