It was a storm that left many of us speechless. Large hail, strong and gusty winds pushed right through the Sioux Falls area, Saturday night, leaving a trail of damage behind.
"Surprised wind could do it. We had wondered what had gone through here," shopper Sherri Hoss said.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says lightning struck the Target at 41st Street and Louise Avenue. It tore a hole in the roof and broke some gas lines.
"Glass all over in the parking lot, caution tape all over Target, no one is going in," Hoss said.
And that's just part of the damage. Just across the road, there was heavy damage to a loading dock at J.C. Penney's.
"I heard a little hail but went to bed and slept well. I was surprised when I got up this morning, heard about the damage, the big hail, fortunate nothing happened on our side of town, but I come over her and see the tree uprooted, tent down," Rita Wagner said.
A large white business tent known for selling rugs, destroyed, leaving many people without words.
"I was very surprised... I was shocked," Wagner said.
"It's a little on the shocking side. Hopefully they're able to repair and get everything in order," Hoss said.
Damage extended over to the Sioux Falls Outdoor Campus. Pieces of a picnic table at the Sertoma Butterfly House landed in the siding of the Outdoor Campus. Strong winds and hail left numerous windows broken, a lot of debris on the walking trails and crews left to clean it all up on Sunday.
Employees say the Outdoor Campus will be back open for business, Tuesday.
