Face It Together Sioux Falls is asking you to support those struggling in our community with addiction. They are hoping to raise over $45,000 through their March Into the Light walk. The walk is Saturday, September 7th. Those walking are asked to meet at the Washington Pavilion at 6:45a.m. The March starts in the pre-dawn darkness, with the rising sun as a symbol for bringing the disease of addiction out of darkness and into the light. They are hoping to have over 500 people participate in the walk. The event is planned annually in conjunction with National Recovery Month and other "Recovery Walks" held around the country. Organizers say that even though the walk is at the beginning of the month, people are encouraged to wear green all month long to support the cause.
Everyone can participate in the walk. Whether you know a recovering addict or are one yourself, The March Into the Light is a powerful way to help shatter the stigma and shame around alcohol and drug problems. You can register for the walk online. For $20 you will receive a dri-fit, long sleeve shirt.
