Sioux Falls building permits up $147M compared to last year
The City of Sioux Falls says it is having a record-breaking year with building permits up $147 million from last year at this time.
The construction valuation for building permits issued by City of Sioux Falls Building Services in 2013 has reached nearly $447 million. Values at the same time last year were just more than $300.5 million.
Of the six current building projects valued at $10 million or more, four are projects supported or recruited by City of Sioux Falls Community Development.
"There's no doubt we will have a record-breaking year in 2013," Mike Cooper, Director of Planning and Building Services, said in a news release. "New residential construction values have skyrocketed, as nearly 1,600 new units were permitted this year; however, the numbers in all categories are strong. People want to live in a community that is vibrant like Sioux Falls. When the community is growing, it's always a sign of economic confidence."
Projects such as the new Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls, Costco, Glanbia Nutritionals, and others are investing millions in Sioux Falls. The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is on the list of high-value construction projects with $32.2 million permitted value this year.
