Tonight we have our first Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week for the new school year.
His name is Craig Reiter and he's a senior at Florence High School.
He currently carries a 3.94 grade point average and has a strong sense of what he wants for the future.
Craig Reiter has so much going on during his school day that he doesn't have any study halls in his schedule.
He's taking English 4, Chemistry and Government.
And he is also involved in a career unit which is teaching him some very hands-on skills. "I learn how to build a house, do plumbing...electricity..electrician work...all the stuff you need to repair your home...while I think is very important for the future. if I can repair my home it's a lot of money-saving there."
And it is that practical sense that has served Craig well throughout his academic career, catching the attention of all his teachers.
"He had high abilities but he puts that to maximum use through his hard work." Gary Leighton is Florence's superintendent and he tells us Craig is a pleasure to have in class because he really tries and had a strong commitment to his work. "He's in all...and always has been..in the most rigorous classes we offer. And has done very well. High high grade point average."
And remember earlier we told you Craig had an interest in construction? Well while he wants to learn those skills and put them to use...his career will take him in another direction. "I plan to go to SDSU for pharmacy. I want to go into pharmacy. I like chemistry and science and all that math just comes so easy to me. I feel that would be a very good career for me."
For being named Scholar of the Week, Craig will receive a $100 scholarship from Codington-Clark Electric Cooperative....which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
