9/11 Pentagon survivor shares her story with Sioux Falls seniors

Posted: Updated:

A survivor of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon shared her story with a group of senior citizens in Sioux Falls today.

Lieutenant Colonel Janet Jones-Hartsell visited Touchmark at All Saints, where her mother lives, and recalled watching live coverage of the Twin Towers, when suddenly, she realized her workplace was a target as well.

"I guess it was about 9:37, and all the sudden, all of us just felt a huge jolt," said Jones-Hartsell.

Jones-Hartsell says in the chaos that followed, her thoughts immediately turned to her family, "When I finally got through to my mom, it was just very emotional. She started crying. I started crying. I still get emotional. I still think of the people we lost. Still think of the fear I felt as I was walking out."

Her husband Major General Lynn Hartsell was stationed at the Pentagon 12 years ago as well.  They met and married after the attack.
