Good corn crop benefits local corn mazes

Posted: Updated:

The corn harvest is just a couple weeks away for most farmers in Southeast South Dakota, but corn mazes in the area will stay up until the end of October. The past few weeks of high temperatures has helped produce some of the tallest corn the Heartland Country Corn Maze in Harrisburg has ever seen.

Karen Sproul is the owner of Heartland Country Corn Maze in Harrisburg. She says this is a big change from last year. "I have never seen corn this tall in all my life. Last year the corn dried down quite a bit quicker, this year it is still so green. Its much better than last year. I bet its two feet taller than last year."

The higher corn makes the corn maze even more fun for quests navigating through the seven foot tall walls throughout the maze. The corn maze at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park also has some very tall corn. Park Rangers say its about two feet taller than last year. You can visit either corn maze Friday through Sunday until the end of October. You can enjoy it in the daylight or bring a flashlight for an after-dark adventure through the maze.
