South Dakota woman heading to Colorado to help flood victims
A South Dakota woman is packing her bags to head to Colorado to help the flood victims.
Nancy McKenney is a volunteer with the Oahe Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Onida native got the call Friday and will leave Saturday afternoon for Denver. She doesn't know where she'll be sent, but she's happy to help.
"I've seen such good things come out of what we can do, we provide food and shelter for people who virtually have no place to go, try to keep them dry and fed and reasonably comfortable as we can, then of course when they get ready to come home, you usually get a hug or two and thank you, it makes me feel really good," McKenney said.
McKenney says she'll be working in shelters, making sure people get what they need.
