South Dakota State University linebacker Dallas Brown has been honored as both Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week for his performance in the Jackrabbits' 34-26 home win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
In his first career start, the Tucson, Ariz., native intercepted a pair of passes and was credited with six tackles as the sixth-ranked Jackrabbits rallied to stay undefeated at 3-0. Both of Brown's interceptions came on Southeastern's last two offensive possessions; the first interception he returned 52 yards for a touchdown with 2:25 to play. The second interception also came near midfield with just over a minute remaining, sealing the Jackrabbit victory.
Brown's interceptions were two of the six turnovers -- four interceptions and two fumbles -- the Jackrabbits forced in the game.
South Dakota State closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule Sept. 21 at Nebraska. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
