The flags were waivin', the horns were blarin' and Luverne was rocking.

The Southwest Minnesota community hosted the 63rd annual Tri-State Band Festival Saturday.
A total of 25 bands from Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa competed in the parade and field competition throughout the day.

This is the longest running community marching competition in the region.

"It's special because its been here for so long," Co-Chair Derek Boeve said. "Its been done for over 60 years. I think this is our 63rd year and it's just been something that's been engrained in the community. We have a great turn out. A lot of people from the area come out to see it. It's just a great event for the kids and families."

About 2500 students participated in this year's festival.
