Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Tyler Panek, a senior at Tea Area High School. Tyler has a 3.98 grade point average, he is president of the student council and involved with the National Honor Society. As we found out, he has big plans for the future.
It's a good thing that Tyler Panek has a second period study hall, because he needs it and that becomes clear when you ask him what classes he's taking this semester. "Right now I'm taking AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP English, Calculus, Personal Finance and then Band." And it's that first class he mentioned...A-P Physics, that he is really investing extra time in this semester because Tyler says it will probably figure heavily into his future plans. "Probably something in the engineering field, I'm not really sure which aspect of engineering yet but hopefully I will get that decided within the next year or two."
And Tyler's good attitude and high level of school work do not come as any surprise to any of his teachers. His computer teacher, David Preheim, tells us Tyler does well at school because he really likes school. "He does a great job of picking up content and he's always engaged in a leadership role in the classroom by helping others when they need help with assignments and he is just pro-active about being involved."
And Tyler is also being proactive about the future: he already has his sights on a college and made his campus visit the day before sitting down with us. "I'm thinking right now SDSU for Engineering."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Tyler will receive a $100 scholarship from Southeastern Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
