The Watertown Police Department has taken reports of scammers posing as bank representatives calling to inform users of a problem with their bank card. The scammers request bank card information and tell cardholders that problems can be fixed over the phone.
According to the Watertown police, the scammers' goal is to use the information to make transactions, and these cases are rarely solved as the scammers operate from a foreign country.
Police advise that financial institutions will not ask for personal information during a call that they made to you, and an easy way to verify the request is to call the institution back at a phone number publicly listed on the Internet or business mailings.
