SDSU Will Announce Plans for a New Football Stadium

Posted: Updated:

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota State University says it will announce plans for a new football stadium at Saturday's Hobo Day game in Brookings.

A public announcement will happen during halftime of the game against Southern Illinois.

SDSU earlier this month presented a proposed timeline of the project and updated architectural diagrams to the state Board of Regents.

Officials expect to submit a funding plan to the Regents in early December. If the board approves it, the project would go to state lawmakers early next year.

The school president says an 18,500-seat venue could cost up to $65 million, with much of it financed through bonds. It would be ready by the 2016 season.

The project would replace the 51-year-old Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, which set a new attendance record last Saturday of 16,498.
