Interstate 90 is closed from Murdo to the Wyoming border, according to a news release.
That segment of the interstate will remain closed until storm conditions improve and crews are able to clear the roadway, the Department of Public Safety said.
Officials with the departments of Transportation and Public Safety also caution travelers that the strong storm will continue in western South Dakota with heavy snow and strong winds through Friday night and into the daytime hours Saturday.
Travelers are urged to visit safetravelusa.com/SD or to call 511to check road conditions in other parts of South Dakota. Travel in western South Dakota is not advised until the storm clears.
