Severe storms moved across the southeast section of the KSFY viewing area on Friday night.
Shortly before 6 o'clock, a reported tornado hit the community of Wayne, Nebraska. Buildings in the community were damaged and several power line and power polls have been pulled down.
From there, the storm system moved off to the northeast towards the Sioux City, Iowa area. From there, the storm split into two sections. One section moved into North Sioux City, South Dakota. The section storm continued to travel across northwest Iowa. A tornado touchdown was reported southwest of North Sioux City with damage reported to homes at a housing development.
We know that storm winds blew over three semis on Interstate 29 near Jefferson, South Dakota. The interstate was closed for a portion of time tonight while those semis were up righted and the mess cleaned up.
A large tornado was reported near Hinton, Iowa. That same tornado reportedly moved through the communities of Quimby, Pierson and Cherokee. Five homes on the south side of Pierson, Iowa are reported damaged tonight...though we are not yet aware of the extent of that damage. We know people in Cherokee took shelter in the basement of a movie theater.
